Wrestling mats
Wrestling has its own infections, herpes gladiatorum first, and its own surfaces: heavy rolls, with stitching, often installed in a shared gymnasium.
Wrestling mat cleaning treats vinyl-on-foam rolls with vacuuming, dry steam on the surface and the underside, registered disinfection of the stitching and the joining tape, then forced drying. It is for clubs, high schools and CEGEPs that share a gymnasium and want a healthy mat without cancelling practice.

The infections specific to wrestling
Federations require skin checks before competition. A healthy practice mat is the first line of that prevention.
- Herpes gladiatorum: the herpes virus passed skin to skin and through the mat, every coach’s fear
- Ringworm: very common in wrestling, passed through prolonged contact
- Staph and MRSA: enter through mat burns and scrapes
- Impetigo: common among young wrestlers
Rolls and joining tape
A wrestling mat is made of rolls joined with adhesive tape. The stitching and the tape are where sweat seeps in and where the underside never dries. The protocol focuses on those zones: vacuuming the stitching, steaming along every join, disinfectant for the prescribed dwell time, forced drying before the tape goes back on.
Depending on the installation, we lift the rolls to treat the underside or treat in place. We confirm at the quote stage.
Schools, CEGEPs and shared gymnasiums
In a school gymnasium, the mat is often rolled up and stored between sessions, sometimes in a damp room. That is where mould and odours settle. We can treat the rolls in their storage room, outside class hours, and leave a report the administration can pass on to parents.
Season calendar
The wrestling season is compressed. The calendar that works: a reset before the season, a visit mid-season, one before championships. Between visits, your daily routine remains essential.
What gym owners ask us
Do you have to take the wrestling mat apart?
Rolls do not come apart like tiles. We remove the joining tape, lift what can be lifted to treat the underside, and put the tape back after drying.
Do you work in high schools?
Yes, outside class hours, with the checks and documents the institution requires. Tell us your constraints at the quote stage.
How long is the mat out of use?
The mat is ready about 30 to 60 minutes after forced drying. The intervention is scheduled so practice is not affected.
What if a wrestler has confirmed herpes gladiatorum?
Keep them off the mat until medical clearance, inform the group and have the mat reset. That is the typical case for emergency decontamination.
An outbreak costs more than a cleaning.
