Frequently asked questions
What gym owners, coaches and school administrators ask us before a first visit.
Mat Maintenance Agency cleans and disinfects the training mats of combat sports gyms across Greater Montreal: tile disassembly, dry steam, registered disinfection, outside class hours. The answers below cover frequency, duration, products, pricing and skin cases.
Do we have to cancel classes?
No. We schedule the work overnight, early morning, or between class blocks. That schedule is the whole point.
How long before athletes can be back on the mat?
Roughly 30 to 60 minutes after forced drying. We never leave a room with a damp mat.
How often is a deep clean needed?
Your staff disinfects the surface daily — that stays essential. A deep clean is typically planned every 4 to 8 weeks, based on class count and group density.
Does steam damage the vinyl or the foam?
No. Dry steam carries very little water: it sanitises without saturating the foam core. That is exactly why we use it instead of a water extractor.
What products do you use?
Disinfectants carrying a Health Canada DIN, applied for the dwell time the manufacturer prescribes. No homemade mixes, no improvising.
Do you work on surfaces other than MMA tatami?
Yes — puzzle tiles, wrestling roll-out mats, jiu-jitsu mats and gymnastics surfaces. Tell us what is on your floor and we will confirm.
How much does mat cleaning cost?
The price depends on the area, the tile type, the number of surfaces and the starting condition. A written quote takes four pieces of information, no site visit required. An annual contract gives a reduced rate.
How much area can you treat in one night?
Most combat sports gyms are treated in a single intervention outside class hours. For large surfaces or several gyms, we work zone by zone across two slots.
What is the difference from a commercial cleaner?
A commercial cleaner washes the surface. We take the tiles apart, steam the underside and the seams, then disinfect with a registered product for the prescribed dwell time. It is a sanitary reset, not a wash.
Do you also clean locker rooms and showers?
No. We focus on training surfaces and what touches them directly: edges, padded walls, nearby benches. Your janitorial service keeps the locker rooms.
What should I do if a member has ringworm?
Keep them off the mat until medical clearance, inform the group, restate skin hygiene and have the surface reset. That is the emergency decontamination case.
Do you work in Laval and on the South Shore?
Yes. We serve Greater Montreal and its surroundings: Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, Brossard, Terrebonne, Repentigny and neighbouring cities. Tell us where you are at the quote stage.
Do you work in schools and CEGEPs?
Yes, outside class hours, for wrestling mats and the tatami of sports programs, with the documents the institution requires.
Do I get a document after the visit?
Yes. Every visit ends with a written report with photos: what was done, the condition found, the recommendations. Many gyms post it at the front desk.
How do I request a quote?
Through the contact form, by email or by phone. We need the approximate area, the mat type, the number of surfaces and your possible time slots. Answer within one business day.
