Preparing the mats for a camp, a seminar or a competition
Three hundred people from ten different gyms on your mat over a weekend. What they bring stays after they leave.

For a camp, a seminar or a home competition, plan three moments: a mat reset before the event, surface disinfection between every block during the event with hand sanitiser available, and a reset after, because hundreds of practitioners from elsewhere leave on the mat what your routine does not know.
Before: start from a mat at zero
An event loads the mat in a few hours as much as a month of classes. Disassembly, seam vacuuming, steam on both faces and registered disinfectant the week before give a clean surface to show and a healthy base. It is also the moment to check damaged tiles and gaping seams, before hundreds of feet find them.
During: between every block
At competitions, disinfecting mats between matches is one of the measures health authorities adopted after outbreaks in wrestling.
- Surface disinfection between blocks of matches or workshops, dwell time respected
- Hand sanitiser at the mat entrance
- Visual skin check at registration for competitions; uncovered lesion = no mat
- Shoe zone and barefoot zone separated, with volunteers enforcing it
- Blood: stop, clean and registered disinfectant on the whole area, not only the stain
After: the reset
The day after the event, before regular classes resume. The visiting practitioners leave; their spores and bacteria stay in the seams and under the tiles. A reset after the event protects your regular members, who did not sign up for that.
Summer camps and seminars
A two-week camp is groups of kids six hours a day on the same mat, in August heat. Surface disinfection moves to twice a day, the mat is vacuumed every evening, parents get the skin rules on day one, and a mid-camp reset is not a luxury for a long camp.
The typical calendar
- D-7: deep reset
- D-1: wash and surface disinfection, tile check
- Event day: disinfection between blocks, hand sanitiser, skin check
- D+1: deep reset
- Following weeks: back to the regular calendar
What gym owners ask us
How far ahead should we book?
Two to three weeks, to get a slot the week before and the day after. Outside class hours, as usual.
Can we do only the after?
Yes. If the mat is already on a fixed interval, the post-event reset is often enough.
Who provides the hand sanitiser?
The organiser, usually. Plan for it at every mat entrance and at the registration table.
An outbreak costs more than a cleaning.
